CHAPTER HISTORY
The Iota Kappa Sigma chapter was chartered on March 16, 2002, by five phenomenal members dedicated to the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc: Shelia Mays, Bernadette Merrell, Vader M. Morse, Dr. Leenette Pennington, and Tanya White.
Since that time, numerous initiatives have been enacted within the chapter to improve the lives of youth, women, and the community. The chapter has fundraised for and donated thousands of dollars to scholarships for worthy students in its' Buds of Spring Cotillion. It has annually executed mentorship activities for young people including the sorority's international "Youth Symposium."
The Chapter has initiated community health screenings and supported local NAACP chapters, Juneteenth celebrations, and MLK initiatives. It has donated thousands of dollars worth of school supplies to under-served communities in Brevard County, FL. It has donated time and supplies to local veteran shelters and pediatric units at hospitals. It also donates regular monetary support to foundations such as the March of Dimes, St. Jude Hospital, and the Cleo Higgins Scholarship Fund. It currently works hand in hand with the 501c3 foundation - The Heart of Blue and Gold, Inc.
